« on: August 10, 2004, 02:17:45 AM »

According to some email I got..

Dear user veladynee@draconomicon.com,

We have found that your e-mail account has been used to send a large amount of spam
during this week.
Obviously, your computer was infected by a recent virus and now contains a trojaned
proxy server.

Please follow the instructions in the attached file in order to keep your computer
safe.

Virtually yours,
draconomicon.com user support team.

I got some trojan on my computer.. My email address has been sending out strange emails to people that contain 'disguised pron', 'possible virus' and stuff! I don't know what the heck is happening!!!! It's only on my Draconomicon email address. Only on it. I don't know what is going on or what to do! Help?

AH that same thing was happening to me on my yahoo! mail. All I did to stop it was to block the sender who sent the original. But it might be different for you.

I would recommend disabiling your email account for now.  Once that is done, download a freeware and the best anti-virus program I've used in all of my technical experience working in PC support and repair shops: AVG Antivirus.  Get on IRC or contact me some other way and I'll get you set up with it without requiring use of your email.  Once you got it, update it, and perform a scan.  If there's something in your computer, it'll find it.  If it can't remove it, get back in touch with me and I'll walk you through removing it manually.

its more like the Virus has a Spoofing on board and an own mail protocol .. so it basicly acts as for example you Veladynee , whilst the virus is on a PC of a person that has you in his/her adress book ..

and the virus makes believe everyone that its you thats infected ...
rather difficult to trace from where it came and who is infected

You didn't do anything with that attactment did you?  Sending email notices like that is one of the latest ways of getting a virus  on to your computer... the actual virus is in the attachment.

Under NO circumstances open that attachment.  Just delete the email completely, update your virus progam and run that instead.  If you run regular virus pudate and scan you computer and emalin regularly  AND refrain from opening unknown attachments, the likelihood of you actually having a virus like that are slim.

I've gotten emails liek that from Yahoo before.  They read you email adderss and add the domain name of whatever email server you are using.  I've gotten them supposedly from Yahoo before.  If you click the attachment is will scan your user name and password not only for draconimicon, but for any others you might have on your system, including paypal, ebay, amazon... any accounts for any other service you might be using.
