New Forum Sections
« on: August 07, 2011, 02:59:04 PM »

I'm going to be doing a bit of forum reorganisation today, based on what we've discussed with everyone in the past and the information and input that you've all given.  A couple of things may be seen as big changes but hopefully you'll see why we're making them :)

We're hoping to promote activity on the site even more, make things more intuitive for navigation and easier to access the main dragonkin and draconity related topics.  So, there will be a couple of new boards that we've talked about in the past with you guys but also some posts will be moved around because certain posts will be more suited to the new boards.

Any questions or comments, feel free to ask here :)  I'll add a reply later (and probably update this first post) with the changes after they've all been put in place.

easier to access the main dragonkin and draconity related topics.
1/13 of the boards on this forum (not counting sub-sections like blogs, Private Health etc) are directly about otherkin :P has anyone else noticed that?

anyway, eh, despite my abhorrence to change, i'm confident you guys will do things that will ultimately be better.

CSA: EVERY board on this site can, and does, contain topics directly about otherkin.  Have you noticed that?  The difference between this site and other dragonkin sites is that we allow other, non-otherkin, topics to also be posted and as such made the names of each forum all-encompassing instead of restrictive.

This is a site FOR dragonkin and dragon lovers to post topics about whatever they want - dragonkin related or not - not just a site ABOUT dragonkin where content is restricted and general discussion is relegated to one section or not at all.  We promote a community environment and, as such, welcome all topics that our members want to talk about with like minded individuals (as in, other dragonkin and dragon lovers).

That you haven't noticed every board contains dragonkin topics is partly why we're doing a restructure, to make them more visible, but I wanted to make it very clear that topics directly about otherkin are, and have always been, welcomed and encouraged in EVERY board on the site and, if you look, every board does contain such topics.

Hope that clears that up for you :)

but the boards, in theory/concept, aren't about otherkin. that's what i meant. it really wasn't a big deal.

Uh, ok but, what are those modifications?
Or I've not spotted them in the text?

Or will be written after they happen?

It's a bigger deal than you meant it to be because there's a high demand for more spiritual topics and such, hence the entire purpose of the reorganization.  While "about" otherkin will always be a small percentage of the "for otherkin" activity, the ratio was getting too low for comfort.

1/13 of the boards on this forum (not counting sub-sections like blogs, Private Health etc) are directly about otherkin :P has anyone else noticed that?

To point this out in the manner you did, when you did (as in in the middle of our thread saying we're fixing it) is quite rude.  While you turn it around in the end, you can certainly see how it'd provoke the response you got.  I know you meant well, but it was kinda rude.

Kiantis: Nothing has changed yet - we're just trying to figure out names for the new boards :)

Ok, at the moment we're trying to figure out what to rename the forum area that's called "Discussion or Debate" because there will also be general conversation and chit-chat in there.  Any ideas on what the new heading could be?

So far we have "Conversation, Discussion or Debate" (yawn. lol!) or "Lets Talk About..." but we're not really sold on either of those.

Sorry for double post but just saying that I won't get this all done today because of moving topics around.  I'll get as much done tonight as possible with the organising and naming, then do the topic moving tomorrow when I have a full day ahead and can focus on what goes where :)

Sounds like a good idea in my opinion.
I would offer to help with names but I don't really have any suggestions to give sadly.

Some topics will be moved today and one of the new boards opened up.  The 2nd will probably be done later tonight :)

Notable changes:

Chat is now called Chill Out.  This is still the place for random subjects that you aren't sure where to put, also for light hearted topics like the quizzes we have sometimes and the 2 game threads that we allow.  Conversational topics will now have a new home though.  NO NEW GAME THREADS ARE ALLOWED, we haven't changed that.

The Den.  This is the first new forum and is for conversation topics - subjects that don't need to be debated but could be talked about conversationally.  Topics like news items you want to chat about with people, something interesting you want to point out and tell other members about.  Talking about jobs or studies that you're doing.  General chatting topics that didn't really have a home before.

Cooled is staying the same name for now.  This is still the same forum but we're making it more clearly defined as discussion and debate topics only.  If you have something you want to go into discussion or have a debate over, this is the place to do it!

So there are the changes that will be most visible today :)  The 2nd new board I'll mention in another post when I sort it out more.  As always, if a thread in any forum changes from it's original purpose into something else, then we can move or split the topic into a more appropriate forum.
