It still yanks my attention away from whatever I'm reading. A smoother transition would be better so it's not SUDDENLY going from a black and white image to color.

Or, y'know, choose one or the other. It's not like they're that different (though I could be wrong). :P

If the changing colours is annoying I wouldn't mind any kind and generous volunteers to colour it in :P.

Guys, thanks. I didn't expect this to continue after what happened last night.

PFM

Edit: A bit big at 140KB, but if this is an accepted style I can optimize it.
Edit2: Felt like seeing if I could do it. #1 is 5s stills followed by 0.1s transition images in 10% opacity increments. #2 had all the odd numbered opacity frames cut out (30%, 50%, etc.) while keeping 0.1s, leading to a faster transition. #3 is same as #2, but with 0.2s transition frames, leading to a choppier transition, but of the same duration as #1. Oh, and the size is effectively halved, leading to faster load time and avoids bogging down people's bandwidth. I don't recall offhand what the avatar kb limit is on D.org

These last ones were a lot better due to the smooth transition!

Second one works best. I think it's still a distraction due to the color scheme, but that's just me.

Nice editing work.

The fade is indeed much better. If only I could learn how to do this properly myself.

Well if the color scheme is distracting to a few others then make a B&W version of that image, just copy and save it as another file and note as the black and white version while changing its color scheme. :3
