The thing I find most interesting about the lack of activity on DR is that people will post to complain about the lack of activity, but they won't actually *do* anything to promote activity... like post a new topic on their own or respond to topics posted by others.  I've started several topics on DR to start conversations going and most of them get little to no response.  For example, my Ask A Witch topic here generated 12 pages of discussion (and anyone who would like to ask something new feel free!).  The one on DR garnered 3 replies from ONE person.  Even if everyone on DR was a magical adept, you would have though there might have been some conversation comparing techniques and such...

But then again none of the topics I've posted have been of the "What is your favorite dragon/elemental/ uber-coo, god-like power" variety, either, but deal more with trying to show people that they can take responsibility of their own lives and happiness if they really want to.  Strangely enough, not too many people seem to want to hear "your life and happiness is yours to control, here are some suggestions on how to get started," but instead prefer "you're fine, it's the nasty hoomans/parents/teachers/etc. who are the problem!"

Point being: interesting topics don't spontaneously write themselves.  Generating new members won't help generate new topics of discussion if everyone just sits back waiting for someone else to post something.

Another thing, that seemed to be quite consistent, was the general snobbery. With various (usually the long-term) members spouting "respect me and my opinion because I've been here (on this site) longer". Users that would whine and rage if another user challanged their assumptions. It really did feel like, if you didn't agree with the administration and regular users, you were not wanted nor welcome on the site.

That is the reason I left Draconic.com - 3 individulals - 1 being a moderator and the other 2 whinged constantly to that moderator who was an ass.

And one of the said 3 individuals was a mod at Dragon Realms apparantly - I wouldn't be suprised if there was indeed snobbery.

I've come to realize that draconity.org is just the thing I've been searching for, and Dragon-realms seems to be less fluffy maybe, Its full of knowlidge and helpful things, but still... somehowe I'd wonder why things dont just fuse together.

The activity becomes a big part of it, and when a popular place gets close to death, its often difficult to bring it back unless they do something, because there is often a reason why things go down hill, even a mix of things, not just the absense of regulars.

Of course their is, and I don't trust what I said to be Gospel in any sort, it was several years ago. My point is that those kinds of attitudes will drive new members away, if they're no longer an issue, that's fantastic.

One member, a friend of mine, a good friend at that, was twice rejected when he applied to join this community. I don't believe he was given any reason other than "your application was rejected" and told to try again in a month. I saw his application, there was nothing wrong with them, he's far more of a dragon than most of the wannabes I found lurking on other sites, he got accepted when I proof-read and rewrote his application.

I am giving you this as a measure of constructive feedback on how the site operated in the past.
Did you ever try sending a message to the admins/mods of DR? They tend to reply with reasons to why they issued a rejection upon being messaged. The application system is not about proving to be otherkin (even non-otherkin joins), but the purpose of the application system is to filter out members whom are not likely to find what they are looking for on DR. This be RPers (people who misunderstand that DR is serious about what it is about), trolls, spammers and spam-bots, and people who were previously banned for a very good reason. As with every filter, it may sometime filter away what should not have been filtered away, but the moderators are only human, and they can only judge upon what has been written in the application. In rare cases, however, experience with a member from other communities or DR's IRC may be taken into account, but this is only when their application seem good, but they are proven to be trolls elsewhere.

DR is a good community.  I wouldn't hate them for denying an application - most get approved, I'm sure.  As far as activity, just start a new thread or such.  Heck, I wouldn't be too hurt if you copy/pasted your own posts from here.

The problem with copying posts over (in either direction) is that people won't want to read the same post twice and make a reply twice, unless they copy/paste their reply too.  In which case, that's not helping DR, that's just spamming them with content but not activity.

Something that was on the draconity site changes and improvements list was more involvement with sister sites, perhaps we could collaborate on something with DR or have some cross-over projects to help increase activity of members there? I'm happy to chat to Forfaox about it on the IRC or pm or whatever :)
