After I talked with Sel about the things that had cropped up on the site over the past several months, and things that needed addressing, I mentioned that it'd be good to have an extra one (or possibly two) moderators to help get on top of this trolling problem and to stop topics getting derailed or going round in circles (as the latter is something people had complained about several times).

This thread is two-fold.

Firstly, I've written up what I feel a moderators role should be on this site.  I'll put that at the end of this post and would appreciate any feedback on if you think it's good as it is, if it needs something added to it, or something removed.  It's you guys who utilise the staff here, so it's good to get your feedback on what you feel you need the staff to be doing.

Secondly, I'd like anyone who is interested in being a moderator to PM me.  You need to be over 18 due to the nature of some posts and areas of the site.  PMing me to say you're interested doesn't mean automatic mod-ship, but it's a good place for us to start knowing who would like to take on the role.


Here is what I think the moderator's role should be.  Leave any feedback in this thread :)

• Welcome all new members with a post in their intro threads – tailor it to the member rather than just saying “hi”.
• Make sure topics are posted in the right place.  Move them if needed (leave a re-location thread).
• Keep topics on track – if they deviate, make a post telling them to bring it back on track or to start a new topic.  If it still deviates, split the topic with a link in each thread.
• Move topics to heated if they stay on track but get naturally heated/aggressive/etc (leave a re-location thread).  Or split topics if they get heated/aggressive later in the thread but the original discussion could continue in Cooled.
• Remove any illegal material and let Sel or Aure know who posted it and what was removed (copy/paste the original post in a PM to Sel or Aure).
• Report anyone abusing the technology to Sel or Aure.  This includes trolling.

The mod's role looks good, though I have a suggestion. Maybe mods should be modding a certain section on the boards and not just all the stuff? I'd say it could be more effective that way, in a way. Though all mods should welcome new members. Not just those that are modding the about you section.

Aye. PM Aure if you're interested. We will not take into account any self-nominations in this thread.  We'll then figure out what we wanna do to help us make a decision.

And actually, it's not much work to be a mod at all. Idealy you're already greeting members, noticing what topics are out of place, etc. All we're doing is giving you a few more buttons to click :)

If I was 18 I would consider it, but I don't think I would be mature enough with the role. Plus I am sure other members would suit better as being a Mod.

though, doesnt the age limit seem silly?
Any age member can acsess any part of the forums, and generally people here are mature, so it isnt like they would be exposed to any behavior they werent exsposed to already

I understand why you ask that. But you need to realise that age does come with maturity. Someone like me, who considers themselves reliable and mature for their age, cannot be at the same level someone else would be at if they were older. Just because everyone can post and be open, doesn't mean the Admin would allow a 12 year old moderator. It just would not work. They are obviously following the legal adult age rule which being 18 the minimal age for being classified as a adult (in most places in the world). It comes down to experience, understanding and maturity. Which is something you and I may think we have, but don't really have. But first of all it comes down to age, the prerequisite requirement.

I honestly don't think Mott would Troll us all. If he was a Mod, he wouldn't necessarily do that, all the time :P. I am sure both Nez and Mott are good candidates for future mods seeing as they have been here a long time, over the age of 18 and are more mature than people like I.
But in case all what I said would fail anyway,
