Spam bots love to post worthless stuff that isn't made by someone whom is serious. Also, they often advertise things as well.

For now, I'm going to re-open up this section of the forums for guests to view.

I don't like the idea of guests being able to post because of all the reasons already said.  It's not a difficult registration process for anyone new to sign up and we don't bite....hard ;) hehe

Alright. It sounds like a good idea there Aurelia. Soon we will see what people think about the decision, and how things develop when it comes to the number of new members.

I've also made all blogs non-viewable to guests to protect member privacy as it's always unknown in there who has it viewable and who doesn't.  So from now on, all are non-viewable to guests to make sure everyone's privacy is protected :)

EDIT: ...I'm missing something somewhere though because even though I have made this forum section viewable to guests again, it still isn't.  So I don't know what Sel actually did, I thought he'd just turned off the guest capabilities but apparently not.  I'll need him to show me.

EDIT #2: Never mind, found it!  Fixed it.

Ninja sel.

I agree with opening up this part of the forum in order to try to get more members. I'v only bean a member for about a week and a half but it seems that we have a limited amount of members who actually do anything on the threads and i would love to see that change.

Only be able to view the "Draconity.org" sub-forum. If not only that one, then not being able to view this at all.

it would be nice if we put up a few things the guest could look at that wasn't just about how to improve the site.

I mean thats mostly what this boards used for so in the end they get to know about what the site has and will have but they don't rely get to see what were talking about.

like what if there was a sub section that we could post on that was strictly for guest viewings and reply's. i certainly would mind throwing a few things up on it and i could think of a few other post that would fit right in on it.

I think that it's a good idea that guests will see some of our forum. They will see if they really want to join us or not.
I don't know which section should be able for them to see, but it should show these people what this site is about.

Sorry, but I didn't have time to read any posts but the first one. I'll try to read the others later.

As it comes to permissions, I agree, we should keep most of the forums locked out of sight of guests. Only the non-personal threads should be viewable, but nowhere should a guest be able to post *anywhere* due to spam bots. The only exception I can think of is if you make a small section for guests for 'enquiries' so that guests can ask questions in a small section for would-be members to learn about the site before they have to join.

Otherwise, the threads /viewable/ by guests should be limited. I'm not sure which would be appropriate.. possibly some things in media? Generally as long as the section isn't very personal (ie. some may consider poetry personal) it should be fine to be viewable.

and the voice of reason sounds throughout the interwebs.

though i think we should have a beater place for guest you make a very valid point. i like the question section idea. that sounds very useful for getting new members and letting them know what the sites about without telling to much of ourselves.
