I'm afraid that post reporting could work a little like this. In that when something's wrong, it's not brought up and reasoned out, but instead anonymously reported to a record that is then acted upon. You might feel betrayed when you are "caught" by something like this. What did you do wrong, and why did nobody say anything?

For all it may seem like this form is a little... unrestricted... it's actually one of the best run forums online right now.  Those of us who have been here a while know what we are willing to tolerate, and for the most part we know when we've let something go to far.  I've been with this forum almost since day one and I have never seen nor heard of anyone abusing the report system.  Generally when someone actually gets pissed off enough to use it, there is a valid reason (trolling, deliberate flame baiting, etc.) and people have TRIED reasoning and "working things out" until they are blue in the face so to speak.  Have there been instances where someone has hit "report to moderator" out of spite?  Probably.  But I would venture that those times are the rare exception  rather than the rule.

Yes, things can get heated.  Yes certain topics have gotten out of hand.  And yes, some people have had their posts flagged for a moderator to look at.  And the vast majority of the time the problem is handled quietly and quickly. I can count on one hand the number of times any kind of public discussion of a possibly disruptive member has ever been brought up.

I suppose what I want is for everyone to see their own mistakes. Because problems arise as soon as we don't. Having to tell someone they're doing something they shouldn't, is a potentially harmful situation that can take place when the best alternative failed. If everybody were noble and just, there is no limit to what we could achieve. What if we could expect that from this community?

You're asking for everyone to be noble, polite, and cool headed, and be able to recognize when they are in the wrong?  Have you spent ever much time on dragon forums?  That may happen in a perfect world but it ain't real likely on a dragon forum.  We are decidedly a loud mouthed and opinionated bunch.  We have 14 year olds, 54 year olds and every age in between.  We have Christians, Pagans, and died in the wool atheists.  We have  people who believe in science above all, the bible above all, and nothing AT all, and we are each convinced that WE are right.  The most remarkable thing that generally gets accomplished on a dragon forum is people agree to disagree and then proceed to ignore one another.

The main limit on "what we can achieve" is we are all different.  Hell... we can't even get everyone to agree on what a fricking DRAGON is, or what draconity truly means.  The only thing I'm looking for out of this or any other forum is for people to accept the fact that we are not all going to believe in the same things but that we should at least respect one another's right to believe what we choose... and that we should not have to worry about being called a fucking idiot, or being told we are going to burn in hell by someone who disagrees with us.

The "Report" buttons are a very good point, methinks.  They are the quickest way to let a moderator or an admin know what's going on, and no one else sees what is being said.  It's like a very quick Private Message to the appropriate mod of any forum.  I know this because I've used them on occasion, and they're far more effective than a moderator going through each post in forum to see if someone is doing something not-nice.  The only reason I haven't used them here, is because they're not that easy for me to see.  Nothing more, nothing less.

As for people being noble on dragon forums... uh, they don't seem to be very noble on any forum I've ever been to, dragon forum or not.  Asking people to be calm and collected on their own is not realistic.

And like J'Karrah said, this is one of the best dragon forums that I've been to.  People can say what they wish, speak their own personal opinions without fear of retribution, and that, I think, helps a lot of folks to open up on a forum like this.  I will be honest: I have accounts with several other dragon forums and this one is by far the easiest for me to visit and not feel like I'm walking on eggshells trying to please everybody else.  I can be me here, and that's the most important reason that I like this forum the way it is.  I have accounts with Dragons Valley, Draconic, ED, and I used to have one with Dragon Realms.  I find this one to be the one forum where I don't feel I have to cater to other people in what I say, believe, etc.  And I say that without any desire to offend any admin of any of the other sites.  I think the world of Jafira, KaniS, Alastago, and Forfaox.  I just find that it's easier for me to be open here, is all, and to be myself.

I agree with you Noddy. I can easily express myself here freely and not get into serious trouble. I lost serious interest and respect for places like Otherkin.com and SilverDragonsBreath. Were there are thousands of people that are members and rules are strict and harsh. I see jokes, swearing and fights happening here a lot of the time, but in other places it is just roleplay, stupid games and conversations. Everything Dragon was in serious trouble a few months ago when they admin realized not many members were frequent. Those that were was only frequent for the roleplaying and games. Anyone that swears on either of those sites are ****** and given a warning. Mind you it was the same when T-sar Goth was the Site Admin of the old Draconity. But I see it that this place has evolved and opened up greatly compared to other places. I can't see them doing the same thing because they have much more members compared to us and wouldn't want to be dealing with many violators.

I have gotten hurt on this site on many occasions. All because I am not as intelligent and old as everyone else. I am young, ignorant and still learning. It brings me trouble when I ever go into debates because someone will have a go at me. Being quite sensitive I don't tend to take anything well in a short period of time. But, I find it good to have such fights and arguments on this site. It will eventually cool off and things get back to normal, it always happens here. I am quite fine with what the Admin and Mods are. A site were Admin be lazy is a good site, providing the members can behave.

Well, a little bit more moderation would be good, yes.
Special board admins just for one subboard like for "Private Health" "Dragons in Media" and so on.

Otherwise.... I haven't any point to criticize the current mods/moderationsystem.

Hmm... I think I have been hurt once or twice here. I don't recall much about those situations though... However, this is a place where I thrive. I like it pretty much as it is. So what I now see that I would like is a reminder about the report buttons when you get your application approved.

I feel that I at a few times would have liked to use that button, but not very often at all. And my most common reaction to things heating up... Just either saying that I don't want to participate on the subject anymore if I am in it, or just stopping with checking it. Ignoring it that is.

So, my final point is that if something goes wrong is that I think that the members should report it if they feel need be, or, if possible to avoid said situation, just ignore the whole thing.
