Interviewees for the Newsletter
« on: November 17, 2009, 10:34:43 PM »

Okay, since I am in charge of the interviewing section (yes! Selroth declared it!) I am going to need people willing to be interviewed!

The way it works:

Just say if you want to be interviewed and I will be sure to put your name on a list. All of the people will be concidered, and once we decide the best candidates for being interviewed, then I shall randomly pick one of the candidates usernames from a bag/hat/whatever. The person I draw will be the person I interview, who will be PMed. (It would be prefered that the interview could be live.) The deadline I have yet to decide.

Good luck to all who wish to be the interviewee!

Edit: Today is the last day for voting! If anyone has any last minute votes please so do.

Not to step on toes here but maybe it'd be better for people to suggest members/staff who they would like to see interviewed, rather than nominating themselves?  It's all very well for everyone to say "I want to be interviewed!" but those kind of interviews could all pretty much be the same and (not to put anyone down) some may not interest people.  Getting some nominations as well, to see who the members here actually want to see interviewed, can give everyone what they want and get the questions asked of the people they want to ask about.

Possibly needs to be a hidden vote so feelings don't get hurt?  Or something along those lines.

Just a thought.

As far as people saying if they're happy to be interviewed, I'm happy to be interviewed whenever in whatever issue of the newsletter :)

I also agree with Aurelia.  And that brings up a question: would we put our nominations on an open thread or PM them to either Xenorosth or one of the admins?

I have a couple people in mind to nominate, but I don't know where to send those nominations.

Thanks.  Blessed Be.

EDIT:

Oh, and Xenorosth: although your idea of a live interview sounds good on paper, as it were, I would warn you that getting a person's words down from spoken voice to written text can be a major challenge.

I know this because I used to run a small newsletter with a friend of mine, and we interviewed a couple people.  Some of their words were so soft-spoken that we had no idea, even with the interview taped, what they had said when played back, and also little bitty noises in the room were amplified through the microphone so that even things that were said very clearly came out garbled.

I would thus suggest that you write out each question that you have for a particular individual and have them write their answers back.  That way you have a pretty absolute knowledge of what they're saying and can edit out any irrelevant words or tangents that you might find inappropriate considering the questions you're asking, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of what the interviewee is trying to say.

I hope this helps you out a bit, Xeno.  Again, Blessed Be.

Nominations could be done here, I suppose.  But yeah, I like Aure's idea - people should hear about the person they'd like to hear about :)

People can also vote on subjects/questions perhaps.

The interview can be done in real-time via IRC, or you can maybe shoot PMs back and forth.

...Snipped.

Okay.  Then I will make my nominations here.

1) You and Aurelia

2) J'Karrah

Those are my nominations for the time being.  Blessed Be.

I like the idea, how about an extra something, once the nominees are entered and from the nominees, the interviewee is picked. Perhaps everyone could get a chance to send in "one question" to be asked. And the interviewer can pick some of those questions?

I pick:

I vote for Redalgo.

While I could vote someone I know to be interviewed, I already know them. I don't know Redalgo one bit so I would be interested in seeing a interview of him.

I also vote for Drakkis, Zuca and TyrantWurm (I also vote for them because I don't know them). I vote for TyrantWurm especially because he is nice enough (with spending his time) to draw people and myself.

Although I wouldn't have a clue what to ask all of them. I could always go back to their introductory page and read that to get a view of them so asking a question like that isn't good in a interview point. Although not everyone gets to see every introductory post.

I am confused however what questions are allowed to be asked and what aren't (or unnecessary).

Aurelia, true enough! But also the person has to be willing. I am sure that interviewing will be no problem to get onto paper if its in an IRC or such. I could simply copy- paste the contents. I suppose it will go by nomination! Thank you all for your input!

If also you prefer to PM me with your vote, you can choose to do that as well!

Perhaps after people have been nominated (and then asked if they mind being interviewed), and those who have agreed to be interviewed, can let Xenorosth know if anything is out-of-bounds with regards to questions.  For example someone may not want to be asked about their love life, or someone may not want to be asked anything that doesn't relate to their draconity, other people may be happy to have anything and everything asked of them.  All I will say though is that this newsletter will go out to everyone on the site, including the minors, so any questions asked will need to be kept to an under 18 theme.  Other than that, Xenorosth can easily ask the people if anything shouldn't be asked about when he asks if they are willing to be interviewed in the first place :)

Of course I was going to keep it under 18. And before the interview I will message them and see exactly what is "in bounds" and what is not

Someone wants to know about me? Holy Jesus Christ Superstar! Fine idea y'all have going here. Wouldn't mind reading a little about someone else's life experiences and how they view the world. I nominate everyone.

Well you can't nominate me because I am the interviewer!

I have decided that I will not nominate anyone for the sake of fairness. I am not going to chose who I want to see, because this is supposed to be the sites choice. (Of course I have to help make the final decision.)
