Oh gods, the Xbox live flashbacks are coming back D: WAUUUGHHHH!

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to say no to this idea, first off , its hard to actually implement and second off the people who want to talk over voice usually use skype or some sort of software that's designed for it.

That and like I just said, Younger people with voice and/or mic are annoying as hell, to be honest, like... "Kill people in bloody rage" annoying, there are some that aren't so bad but... ughhhhh, I don't even want to think of it.

Wow, I wholesomely agree.

But don't worry, nowadays Xbox live isn't filled with just preteens, but also early elementary school children, like my 7 year old brother!

Actually, worry.

I personally just don't feel it's worth the trouble, it's not necessary at all. And to be honest, if this was even implemented, I'd be the user to never get involved with it. ;)

I need to get a new microphone, after my computer has been put back in commission. Then I'm all set and ready to go. I'm rocangus51 on Skype.

We already have a thread about "live" chats (somewhere in the Projects forum I think) and it was pretty much decided then too that skype was the best way to go.  It's free and easy and, as has been said, much easier to implement by us all setting a specific time to voice chat - for normal text chat we have the IRC/javachat option set up anyway which is MUCH easier to talk on as you don't get issues when everyone talks at the same time hehe.

Whinning ones are even worse, espcecially when they are crapping on and on about 'learn to shot straight j00 n00b!!11!) but it can also lead to hilarious zombie killing with doing different voices.

murrm... the only place I ever use voice chat is on steam and that's because voice is the only easy medium of communication when your busy playing a video game that requires mouse and keyboard. For those that may not know, I run a group on steam called RAWR that is a group for dragonkin (and friends) to communicate and play steam games together. Anyone that plays steam games can go to http://steamcommunity.com/groups/R-A-W-R  which supports voice chat if you directly contact a user.

Steam! I have steam as well! Maybe I should join that group and log on more often when my computer has come back, or I've got a new one?

I have Steam as well, but thanks to my normal account being closed down I currently don't have any games. But I will have L4D in about 3 weeks.

@kilmore:
Voice chat is a fine system to use for discussing, I'll agree to this much. But I'd treat it like a phone call. You don't call someone until you know you want to talk with them, which means you don't do voice chat with random people.
Webcam should be avoided unless you have at least some level of trust of the person you are talking with. If you go around offering the world to see your webcam, you better be damn confident that noone can see anything you consider private on it...

Other than that, I think other people here have already covered my other thoughts

Haha, i've tried talking in that room
but no ones really on :P
Conversations kind of die

And for voice/video chat,
Im up for it i guess sometimes
Itd be kind of fun to communicate through voice than through text
