Just don't close the site down.

Seconded, big time.

Selroth, sorry to mention this, but the Gallery is down again.  When I clicked on a title, it said, "Method Not Implemented," and added that there was a "404 Not Found" error involved.  I don't see any of the gallery picture thumbnails, and I can't get any of the pictures to load at all.

Just wanted to let you know.

Well, tech issues come back all the time. Maybe someone has done a change in the server to make it run better than knocked the gallery out again?

Aww nuts!  How'd I break it?!  Or more imporantly, how do I fix it?!  Hmm..  I'm kinda pressed for time as I'm in the middle of moving from Italy back to the US, but I hope I can take a stab at it.

Though I'm also trying to move to SMF 2, there seems to be roadblock after roadblock but I am making some progress!  With this would also come a new gallery (more stable, I hope), and more features.  And don't worry, there will be no data loss - all the pictures on there are still there and will remain there for the upgrade - even if I have to convert some things by hand :)

Good luck on all the stuff there, Sel. Moving from one country to another and passing several time zones cannot be easy. It sure will get harder to talk to you at times, but hey, it's in the States you have been born and raised, so getting back closer to home must feel great. I haven't moved a very long distance, actually, I can't remember it at all.

A little ramble there perhaps, but I mostly wanted to wish you good luck.

That thing with SMF 2 might be what's causing the problem, Selroth.  Remember how the galleries did the same thing with the previous upgrade?  I have a hard time believing that you broke anything.

I'm just glad the pictures are still there, and that you're doing your best to figure out what's wrong.  Blessed Be, and have a good rest-of-the-weekend.

And make sure to get some rest and enjoy your Sunday.

The prototype website is up and running (and well, has been for a while).

However, the major show-stopper now is blogs.  The data and everything is there, but there's currently no mods for the new version of SMF that will allow for a blog-style interface that many on this community have become accustomed to.

Feel free to log in, see the shortcomings for yourself, as well as the improvements here:
http://www.thewestgate.net/draconity2/

Any posts you make on the prototype site may well not be read and will be lost.  I am constantly flushing the database there, so I suggest not using it for communication.

P.S. the gallery should be fixed a few hours from now.

I think I will skip checking out the prototype site, as the main site has enough of stuff to go through. However, I look forward to getting an upgrade and hopefully better stability (the forums are very stable already, but sometimes bad stuff happen).

So Selroth, I just noticed part of your last post on this thread.  When you say there's no mods to allow for a blog interface like we've become accustomed to, does that mean the blogs will have to be removed or will the blogs be somehow put on a separate site?

I'm just curious because there are some things I write in my blog that I do not think would be appropriate for the forums, either because they're not open for debate with me or because the posts are so darned long.

Maybe what you could do, Selroth, is put up an area of the forum that would allow people to have individual threads dedicated to what would have been their blogs?  I wouldn't use it as a permanent solution, but it might serve our purposes on a temporary basis at the very least.

Blessed Be.

The blogs on the new site are still there and usable.

How blogs work on this site right now is there's an invisible forum for each user's blog.  Each blog by the member is a thread in the forum, with the content being the OP (Original Post).  All comments in the blog are the following posts.  What happened when you clicked the "Blog" link is it would show these invisible forums, but in a different layout.  however, all actual data for the blogs is handled as a forum/thread/post architecture.

The new site, you can see a child-board called "Blogs" under the "About you."  This is how the blogs look here, unhidden and without the "blog" layout.

I think I understand, but I'm going to have to look at it myself to really get what you're saying.

Thanks.

So that's how it is going to be. And that means perhaps that others that aren't registered can read them?

No, guests cannot view blogs.
