Well, I think it is to give a way of seeing how active the members are.
Yes, but it may be misleading; someone with a large post count may have been very active in the past, but not active at all recently. Also, users who read everything but rarely post anything will have low post counts, which can make those users seem like they are new, or have been away a lot, when they merely haven't been very vocal.

I don't really see the point of displaying post counts at all.

They are there... to show post counts. It's a statistic, that's all.

That's another way to see it.

He has a point.  Unfortunately, we do have a tendency to take at least some judgment from post counts.  Perhaps they could just be in the profile?

Perhaps post count could be disabled in game-threads? Oh, and hey... RP threads could be dragon related, just thinking randomly.

I think games and little fun threads should be a part of a serious discussion board.  People can get so wrapped up in the arguments and the drama that surrounds the more serious threads that they can be severely stressed by them.  So having games or fun threads can actually benefit many of the posters who come in here.

I can agree with this.  There is a time to be serious, and a time to relax.

Well, it is. I think you could keep the more "for fun"-threads where they are, and make a Spirituality section.

Sorry I didn't get around to the new section yesterday - the trip on the weekend was longer than expected due to a car crash on the way home and we got stuck in the traffic queue.

I think trying out a Spirituality section isn't going to hurt anything so it's worth giving it a shot and if it doesn't do all that's wanted we can then look at other options if need be. ...or just remove it if it's deemed unneeded by you guys after trying it out.

Flexiblity FTW!

That's a bit like that "Ash, there's a time and place for everything" that you encounter in the earlier Pokémon-games. Professor Oak says this if you try to use a bike indoors... Well, random thoughts.

Basically.  The quote I gave was something I'm sure Airy is familiar with.  I hope I'm right on that.

if only we could set it up so that each member could rearrange the sections for their own settings, like one member can have them arranged one way while another member can have them arranged another way. perhaps minimize sections they dont use and put the ones they frequent at the top.

I would hope that any changes that get made still reflect a priority of keeping threads well-organized by type to make them easy to find. Debate-toned subjects should not be mingling alongside games or other lighthearted, easygoing material. Threads dealing with spirituality don't belong with current events, supportive discussion of life's non-spiritual hardships, or online quizzes. As Rocangus said, there's a time and a place for everything. The time and place is not always apparent, however, because many threads can fit into more than one of the present sections.

This is especially problematic in Discussion or Debate. Cooled / Heated gets bogged down in disorganization. I would propose their replacement with a larger number sections and a rearranging of present threads to fit. In Cooled alone the thread themes appear to be spirituality (cooperative tone), spirituality (debating tone), magic, relationships, current events, and many others. Alternatively, subjects in Cooled could nearly all fit into Heated, Comfort Zone, Chat, and About You. In Heated, meanwhile, the themes are spiritual (cooperative tone), spiritual (debating tone), politics, current events, and many others that could be put into Cooled, Chat, and About You.

While the hands-off approach seems functional, the Cooled/Heated discussion guidelines are not as good as simply having a moderator to look at the threads, step in to call foul when a subject gets too personal, and respond to privately submitted concerns. I don't see it as having been a problem at all lately. Posts can easily make any thread "heated," and yet in most the tone remains quite civilized. Spirituality was floated as one idea, what other categories should threads be sorted into? What do you think? Is it even a good idea to move some things around?
