:)

Thought I'd clarify something too.  When you say spirituality, are you including all of the religious threads/topics in there too?  Religion and spirituality are generally seen as 2 different things so I'm not sure about your thoughts on that one.  Particularly as some of the Christian threads definitely belong in the Heated section.

On another board I belong to, there's a section about Religion and Spirituality that is divided into subsections based upon the general facets of religious/spiritual thought represented on the board.  This might not be practical here, as the other boards has upwards of 15,000 members and I don't think Draconity.org has that kind of membership.  Still, it might be something to look into.  Kind of putting the two together in one big forum and then dividing the different facets according to the labels we commonly give them (Christian; Pagan; Non-Theistic; Jewish; etc.).  The board I'm talking about only has about six subforums in that section, and each is listed not as a specific version of a religion or spiritual path, but rather is divided by general terms for ease of navigation.

Maybe this will help.  I hope so.  Have a good day, and Blessed Be!

If it's a pointedly controversial topic like, say... evolution, then it would probably go in the Heated section.  I'm thinking that religious threads could go in the discussion/debate sections or in the spirituality sections depending on content.  For example, someone wanting to know how to manage both their religion and their draconity in the same basket would put the thread in spirituality, whereas someone asking how some religious stance could possibly work in today's scientific understanding would likely drift towards the discussion/debate.  It'd be a case by case thing.

...I'm also wondering if a wiki would be best for this kind of discussion, and research.
A wiki is great for a group of people working together to write a document, but not so great if any of the people using it are likely to disagree on anything. If the users on a wiki are working against each other, the result is often an inconsistent mess.

Will sort the extra forum out either Sunday or Monday - Sel and I are away in Pisa until very early Sunday morning so not really chance to figure it out and move posts, etc until then :)

Mature, thoughtful discussions where different beliefs are balanced...

I'm finding none.  There's no clear-cut section for the discussion of spiritual beliefs.

Maybe you should skip the discussions and just post your beliefs without looking for a response. Do you want us to ask you questions so that we understand you better, or do you just want us to listen to what you have to say? Forget about the logic in spiritual beliefs. Sometimes, there appears to be none. Maybe you want us to have open ears and closed mouths -- neglecting to criticize what you have to say. :-) Thanks for ranting. Listening to people is sometimes to best thing to do.

The thing about posting my beliefs on a forum is that I expect a response.  Why would I take the time and effort to summarize my intensely personal beliefs otherwise?  If my reasoning is flawed or if I'm missing something, then it's in my best interest to have that pointed out.  If something I know could help someone else's spiritual development, then I feel obligated to share that information.  And yes, if someone wants to understand my views better, they should feel free to ask me.

This is a community forum.  If you don't want a response, you shouldn't be posting it.

Forget about the logic in spiritual beliefs. Sometimes, there appears to be none.

On the contrary, logic and spirituality aren't exactly exclusive.  Critical thinking has been paramount in much of my draconity.  I'm hardly suggesting a scientific approach; there's a mild lack of evidence for that route.  However, reasoning skills can help one differentiate between a past life and a dream, magicksz from coincidence, and fluffy bullcrap from real spiritual development.

Maybe you want us to have open ears and closed mouths -- neglecting to criticize what you have to say.

If something I say needs to be criticized, then bring it on.  A healthy dose of constructive criticism is extremely important (I would argue almost necessary) for spirituality.  It gives you the ability to look at things from a different point of view.  It may even lead you to a much greater realization than you would have been capable of yourself.  Don't get me wrong, that can be taken too far as well.  But what's the point of posting on a forum community if nobody is going to give you any feedback?

Sometimes, people find forums an excellent place to publish their writings. (click)

You asked Nez if he just wanted everyone to have "open ears and closed mouths" and he said no.  If he posted something he was doing to in order to promote discussion, to get other points of view regardless of whether they agreed with his or not.  So now you post a link to some other forum with what seems to be a rather flippant remark.

What is it about the notion of preferring to make posts that actually generate discussion, as opposed to just posting for the sake of one's personal mental masturbation, that appears to bother you?  That may not have been what you intended, but that is how you are coming across to me.  Please correct me if I am getting the wrong impression.  What, exactly, is your point?

It was a simple answer with a simple example. He asked a question and got reply. :um: Was it a rhetorical statement?

No, but your reply didn't address the question of "what's the point?"  Okay, so "sometimes people find forums an excellent place to publish their writings."  Why?  If you are not interested in any kind of feedback, good or bad, why bother?  Why not just write it in a journal and leave it at that?

Do you simply get a "feel good" out of seeing your thoughts posted online somewhere so that others may see it?  Is it little more than mental masturbation? Or is there some deeper reason?

I just looked at the forum topics and sections today. There is a place for discussion on spirituality. Don't know if topics just got moved there or if it was there longer.
It's located here: http://www.draconity.org/index.php/board,56.0.html

No points for guessing why there's a spirituality section now.  ;)
