Yeah that sounds a lot more like RP if everyone involved has their own character to control in it.  I used to do one like that (only you could have more than one character if you wanted) based on the world created in the Kelley Armstrong books (the women of the otherworld series).  That was a lot of fun   but even though it was a bunch of wannabe novelists coming together to write a collaborative story, it was still called an RP and still was really.

If multiple people had control over each character then it would be less like an RP and more like a story written by everyone.  Especially if the plot was sorted out first to get a set plan of a start, middle and ending.

(on the note of story-like RPs, one of the members here who hasn't been around for a while runs one that is good.  Since moving house I've lost my links so I'll get it off him again on MSN next time I see him and let you all know.  It's a dragony themed one with all sorts of different "races" you can write a character for and be.)
