I read somewhere that the stickies were done to blow new life into old topics that deserve a new life.. BUT, I see stickies dating back to 2006.. So its not very effective, why do we still have them ?

Most of the stickies have only just been stickied so they are oooollllldddddd topics lol.  No topics get deleted on the site so even if they're not stickied there will be some threads dating back to 2006 and even older.

Some of these old ones have been stickied because they seemed interesting topics and would be good to have fresh opinions on, if people want other topics brought back to life though and made sticky then feel free to recommend any that you want and definitely feel free to start new threads about topics you want to get fresh opinions on :)

Yeah I'd thought about those two as well and think they'd be good stickies - just bear with me while I'm sorting out the other threads in the debates forums first.  After those are organised and sorted a bit more (there are still some threads from the old site to move across) then I'll move onto the chat, multimedia things :)

Good call though, they're definitely 2 popular threads and fun too :)
