What does Draconity.org do for you?
« on: November 22, 2008, 11:46:05 AM »

Whether you know it or not, Draconity.org is part of your life.  By spending 5 minutes out of you day, week, or even month reading this post, you're choosing to have a small amount of Draconity.org in your life.  Recently I had a poll in regards to site activity: if it should increase or not, and how it should increase (same users posting more, or most users posting).

It seems like there's a slight desire for a bit more activity, but not necessarily by new people.  It seems to be a general case where people in this community like to see you, the reader, around.

So, I want to grab a bit more activity from you, if at all possible.  I figure the best way to do that is to capitalize on the reason why you're here, and maybe offer some new rewards for your time.

But, what is it you enjoy most about being here?

Now, about the poll.  There's likely several reasons you come here or it's a mix.  But, in order to make this useful to me, I want you to do your best to split the options in half - which matter to you the most.  You can select up to 5 options (unfortunately the technology wont let you stack votes on a single option).  If you've already voted before reading the post (like I sometimes do :), no worries, you can reset your vote.  Of course, I'm also going to read the replies so don't hessitate to post as well :)

I agree with rewarding for coming here xD. Maybe you could get achievements for time milestones (1 day, 1 week, etc.). That'd be cool.

I enjoy many of the interesting topics/posts here. Aswell as finding people i can relate with.
I also liked the way i was able express myself when first i got here. There was that little intro in the about me section at first, then a crappy picture of me in the Faces topic :\
After there was that time where i was tripping out and didnt know what to do with myself while in the process of awakening, and i thought i was going nuts...yeah...
Good Times they were...good times...

So, the poll pretty much sums up:
-You like talking about dragons
-You like being with people who share a similar affinity for dragons

Which I guess is a good thing as that pretty much is the purpose of the site :)

Well, I made a few friends on the site, so this is a big reason for me to come here. Another big part of being here is, shall I feel the need to write something, I can do that without being worried of moderation or people being nasty and such. I really love the open-ness and friendliness of this community.
And then there is the interest in/affinity with dragons, quite obviously.  :dragon_cool:

this site has something special like a charm.

Your medal is the amount of stars you have :P (It shows how much you've participated on the forums). That's enough; otherwise it would be like blackmailing someone into coming on the site lol :D

Na, we're gonna avoid any point system that could potentially turn the site into a popularity contest.  Though, I do like rewarding people for being here and participating.  Time, isn't really all that good cause some people signed up years ago and just been active th last month or so, or take huge absenses, or such.  Total time logged in, however, would be a bit more accurate but again biased to people who have the page automatically open or such, without actually participating in anything.

Post count is the most accurate because we don't have many threads that encourage one-word posts (silly threads like a counting game or somesuch).  But, again, still not very accurate.  We can do a word count, but a lot of words doesn't mean good communication - your point should come across with as few words as possible.

So, it often comes down to the opinions of the readers of your writing.  Which leads to a karma system.  Which, ultimately is, a popularity contest and a toy that often makes new people feel insignificant.

It seems the best route to ensure a lasting and strong community is equality.  The forums should be a discussion, not a game.  We can put games elsewhere on the site :)

I'm here because this place gives me a place to get away from the world where you have to be Politically correct about everything. And because you're all cool to me.

I'm in this site because I can be with different people that feel the same as I do. And it's a friendly site of course

I like this site because there are alot of people who understand what it means to be a dragon and are understanding that every dragon is different. Also people here respect each other and their differences more than some sites I was on in the past. Also friends and a chat network that doesn't bad mouth every person with a varying opinion. There are many more things I like here but these are the main ones that stood out the most for me.
