Daily runs on the site
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:05:10 AM »

Or maybe not so daily.  However it is, I'm sure many of our long-time members browse our site skimming for new posts, reading all or just the ones that seem interesting.  However you choose to use the site, does it work well for you?

For me, for example, I find it kinda wierd when I click on "show unread posts" in the member bar, it doesn't show new topics.  Also, at the bottom of the board index, there's a list of 20 recent posts, but posts in the same thread are shown.  If I was going to read the post, wouldn't I read all the new posts in the thread?  So maybe it should be a list of the 20 newest/updated threads.

Maybe you don't use the lists but look through the forum index for the colored icon reflecting new threads.  Then you pick the newest threads out of the forum, and read the newests post?

Or maybe you don't give a damn about other people's threads, and just want to read your own.  Maybe there should be a list of "your recently updated threads" or something.

Or maybe you don't want to be a part of this site as a set routine or such, and would rather the site notify you.  Are threads/forums easy enough to manage email notifications?  Would you like a Daily/weekly/monthly summary of recent topics emailed to you?  Maybe you would like the ability to reply to posts and threads via email and not have to visit the site at all to have a conversation on it?

Let me know these things!  :)

Maybe there should be an easier way to tell if you've replied in it or not?  I would find that good for introduction posts.  Sometimes I miss someone or think I already said hi to them.

Maybe I should install a portal that lets you sort/filter the site content in any way you want, and build your own lists, and manage notifications easier.  That sounds like it could be neat.

Sometimes when I post, I like to see the list of posts because that means if someone has posted after me, it shows who and in what thread :D

It's good to have the list of all new posts, rather than threads, as you can then see which post you need to start from to get all the new ones.  If it just said "New posts in [this thread]" then it could be hard for someone to see where they need to start reading from, especially if its one of the big topics that has 10+ pages of posts.

Maybe you don't use the lists but look through the forum index for the colored icon reflecting new threads.  Then you pick the newest threads out of the forum, and read the newests post?
Yep, that's what I do :D  That way I don't miss new threads or new posts in existing threads.
