On Digging Up Old Topics
« on: December 13, 2006, 03:26:12 AM »

In regards to occasional comments being made, I wanted to post something about the digging up of old topics:

With the exception of time-sensitive topics, digging up old topics is not only allowed, but is very much encouraged here.

If you are going to start a new thread on a topic that you might already exist, please use the forum search function to check for an old topic first.  That way, the discussion will be all in a single, easy to find place, instead of spread out over several threads.  Also, you will be able to see contributions from members that may not be around currently or from members that do not want to repeat themselves on a topic they may have already written greatly about.

Members that do this should not be discouraged and are definitely not being rude by actually saving people work and effort, and contributing to keeping the site organized.

The only exception to this approach is that an occasional thread involves a topic that cam get rather dated.  Stuff asking about some particular aspect of everyone’s draconity will probably be relevant for as long as the site is around, but people asking for advice on an upcoming event or resolving a very specific situation will loose relevancy months and years after any resolution.  In those cases, where it is too specific to add anything useful for readers in general, check the dates of the last and original posts to see if adding more would be helpful, or just a waste.
