According to the counter at the bottom of the forum, Draconomicon is closing in on 1000 members.  I'm guessing this counter is based on how many have joined, whereas the counter on the left is based on how many members are still members.

So, for which counter do we party?  I have my confetti ready to go ...

What the counters have reported have changed around a lot, so I'm not sure what they are.  It used to be the one on the left was higher, since not everyone that joined got around to looking at the forums.  However, since we switched to an application system, people used to be counted even if their application was turned down.  I thought that used to be the left counter that did that, but maybe it got cleaned our or I have it backwards.
 
As far as knowing how many active members we have, there is no easy way to figure it out.  The best method I've found is to go into the forum member list, and sort by number of posts, then looking at the member number at some arbitrary cut off.

I went and checked the list myself just now.  There are 56 members that have made at least 100 posts, 158 that have made at least 20, and 212 that have made at least 5.  330 members have made at least one post, leaving the rest with zero posts.

And with maybe the exception of people with turned down applications being removed, I think once an account is in the system, it stays there even if the person leaves or gets banned (The half dozen accounts from a past hack attempt are still listed, for example).

Perhaps lurking members have no time to post ... You, see, I visit several forums at the same time and it takes some time to read all the new posts. Nevertheless, I always try to reply when it's possible ... :-)

I've divided my confetti into 40 equal piles, just to be safe.  Do you know how difficult it is to count tiny paper shavings?

I say we party for when the first counter his 1000.  We party when the second counter hits 1000.  We party and party until we get sick of partying, then we stop until it's fun to party again!!!

When I first joined this site, I read an old thread where someone (I don't remember who) stated they would return when the member count reached 1000.

I need to find that thread again, because I'm interested to see if that person actually shows up ...

BTW, I'm done with the confetti *puts away dust pan* ... I'm breaking out the White Merlot! :drag_hyper:
