Wow, been a while since some news, eh?
Alright, well we got news for ya. Draconomicon is starting a gaming clan for all dragonkin. For those of you new to the concept of a gaming clan, it's where people gather to play games and often has tidbits like a ranking system, awards, and "wars" between other clans and competitions. They can be as simple as a bunch of people identifying with a group of friends, or as large as purchasing servers specific to the games they play and having national competitions for money and other prizes.
This clan is open to all dragonkin and those with interest in dragons/dragonkin. However, only those. Here's the two primary rules, which illustrate who this clan is for:
1) No in-game recruiting. That is, if you're playing against other gamers, mention as little as you can about dragonkin, and most certainly do not invite them nor tell them how to join our clan. It's for dragonkin and friends only!
2) The only people who are welcome into the clan are those who are ALREADY a member of Draconomicon, our sister sites, or Draconic.com/Draconic.net. They cannot join one of our sites in order to join the clan. Anyone who is already a member of these sites and THEN finds out about the clan, is eligable to join the clan. This should be fairly secure as most of these sites have an application process which filter out the people we don't want on our sites (and therefore clan) already.
So, that's what's special about our clan. It's not a "Draconomicon" clan, so anyone from the other sites are welcome. However, since Draconomicon will be serving and maintaining the clan, we do expect credit for the clan. We do not suggest other dragonkin sites starting their own clan just yet (the clan may be divided later if we wish) because we already have a pretty low potential population, but should be enough if the sites unite together on the idea until we get bigger.
For Draconomicon fans, this will hopefully boost activity on our site :)
For now, the clan will join together in a channel on the Draconomicon IRC server. We um, don't have a name for the channel yet because we don't have a name for the clan yet (help us out here). If you want to discuss it on IRC, or can't wait to play, many of us on the IRC #Draconomicon already play games like StarCraft, WarCraft III, Counter-Strike: Source, and Unreal Tournament 2004.
The gaming channel will be much the same. People in the clan sign onto this channel, and if someone wants to play a game, ask if anyone else wants to play, and it seems you can usually find someone :) In the channel topic will be a game Database Atomic is making where you can create an account and make a list of what games you have, then search for others who have the same game. Also in the channel topic we can have schedules for practices and tournaments. We'll establish game leaders, a rank system, and clan forums and other tidbits as we grow.
We'll be trying to get in contact with other site administrators to make this thing a group effort. So, happy gaming and help us pick a name so we're not some name-less clan :)
