Actually, right aftre I posted it I remembered the sponsor system. Depending on how we handle it, we might lose a LOT of members in our database. The way I plan on going about it is:
1) BEFORE any actual website changes, the new Draconomicon will be hosted on build.draconomicon.com. We can then make sure all the active members have a sponsor ahead of time (assuming they deserve one, but I can't think of any current member that doesnt). This also gives people a chance to familiarize themselves with the site, find any bugs/inconviences, etc though it will only have prototype content on it.
2) Transfer over all the content to build.draconomicon.com. Rename the current
www.draconomicon.com to old.draconomicon.com. Renamed build.draconomicon.com to
www.draconomicon.com.
3) Have the old database backed up. New members will have to apply again. However, if they have a matching username or email from our old database, this is made note of and an administrator will sponsor them for a short time if no one else does. Also, in case the member changes their username or email, then if they can log into old.draconomicon.com still and show us, then they get the same privelidge.
4) Keep old.draconomicon.com around until the sponsor system stablizes. Once we're ready, and most people are good with the new site, we decommission it and throw it into archive somewhere.
